ADVANTAGE BECOMES
HUB FOR ASSISTING HURRICANE KATRINA VICTIMS IN EL PASO, TEXAS
SAN ANTONIO, Texas (September 2005). On September 7, 2005, Advantage
Rent-A-Car, El Paso, Texas became a donation relief station for the
community offering assistance to victims of Hurricane Katrina. KLAQ and
Power 102 did live remotes to provide public awareness announcements and
promote good will. Hairdressers and two massage therapists were on hand
to provide free services to the victims.
A unique situation occurred in El Paso and in cities throughout the
United States with a culmination of businesses across industries
gathering together to create a central ‘help’ point for the hurricane
victims and once again displaying the real face of America under crisis.
Representatives from the El Paso CVB were there to accept and organize
donations from the community. Additionally, represented were the Mayor’s
office, the Sheriff’s office, the local chapter of the American Red
Cross and Progressive Insurance staff delivering an assortment of staple
emergency items such as bandages, over the counter medications, water,
toiletries and clothing. Johnny Carino’s Italian Restaurant was on site
serving free hotdogs to all donors. In addition to filling two fifteen
passenger vans with donations from the community-at-large, over $2,200
in cash was raised for the victims.
“This is an amazing example of how a community pulls together to aide
one another – and the initiative was led by Patricia Garrett, District
Sales Manager for Advantage Rent A Car”, said Mitch Osborn, Regional
Director, Advantage Rent A Car. “We are all proud to have participated
in making the difference for those affected by this devastating storm.”
