RENT-A-CAR AND STAR SHUTTLE AND CHARTER FIGHT RISING MEDICAL INSURANCE
HEALTH COSTS WITH EMPLOYEE HEALTH INITIATIVES.
SAN ANTONIO, Texas (June, 2005). Rising health cost is serious business
and Advantage Rent A Car along with its’ sister company, Star Shuttle
and Charter are doing something about it. On June 15, Advantage and Star
is launching an internal healthy lifestyle initiative titled ‘THE ROAD
TO BETTER HEALTH’. Employees will be offered assistance in choosing a
healthier lifestyle including fitness programs, weight management plans
and smoking cessation therapies and other resources such as online
planning guides and newsletters with tips on wellness. With billions of
dollars each year spent on smoking and obesity-related health care
costs, corporations are taking an aggressive stance on controlling their
losses.
“Our objective here is to get employees healthy,” says James P. Walker,
C.E.O., Advantage Rent A Car. “It’s not health care costs alone that
impact the workplace. Lost employee productivity is escalating which
affects everyone. In order to keep health-care costs manageable for
employees, we plan to provide the tools and financial assistance
necessary to get healthier. However, each individual must also accept
responsibility for their personal health and its’ affect on others.”
Advantage and Star is so committed to this program that owners and
senior executives were the first to sign up. And a pre-launch event was
held at the corporate offices with teams participating in a ‘run for
health’ relay race. Weight loss and smoking cessation goals have been
established and contests and other motivational activities will be
introduced throughout the campaign.
